Sustainable System Technologies proudly joins South Africa in celebrating National Women’s Day on 9 August 2026.
This important day commemorates the historic 1956 Women’s March, when more than 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against apartheid pass laws.
Seventy years later, their determination remains an important part of South Africa’s history.
Today, we also celebrate the women contributing to science, technology, engineering, sustainability and innovation.
Across South Africa and around the world, women are developing renewable energy solutions, designing infrastructure, conducting scientific research, managing environmental programmes and creating technologies capable of changing how we live and work.
Encouraging more women and girls to explore STEM fields can strengthen the pool of ideas, skills and perspectives available to address some of our greatest environmental and technological challenges.
The sustainable future we frequently discuss cannot be built by only part of society. Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in creating it.
Today, we remember the women who marched for change in 1956 while celebrating those building tomorrow.
